Characteristics of Charophyceae:                

The class Charophyceae (name given by the type genus Chara) is the only current class of the phylum Charophyta. It is a fairly small group, with about 400 species that look quite similar among them and live in continental waters almost all over the world. All its species are located under the order Charales.
