Characteristics of Ceratiomyxida:

Ceratiomyxida, named after the type genus Ceratiomyxa, is a small worldwide group that inhabits soils, mainly rich in organic matter. They have a similar lifestyle to the rest of the class Mixomycetes, but they differ due to peculiarities of the flagellar apparatus and by the spores with four nuclei that germinate into a structure with four lobes, each of which undergoes mitosis.

The phylogenetic position of this order is still somewhat uncertain, as it appears to be intermediate between Dictyostelia and the rest of Myxomycetes. It may be elevated to the rank of class in the future.
